Porter magazine called her a ‘Global Skincare Expert’, and Caroline Hirons described her as ‘one of the best facialists in the world’. In the skincare industry, Marie Reynolds is in a league of her own.

I had the privilege of experiencing one of Marie’s facials as a young journalist—and I can still remember every exquisite detail more than a decade later. Marie is an exceptional facialist, but that’s not all: she’s the creator of a skincare line and a supplement range, and she also offers a range of wellness therapies at her purpose-built clinic in Norfolk.

In this chat, Marie reveals her secrets to great skin. If you think it’s all down to products, think again…


How would you describe your job?

The simple answer is that my job is about wellness and skin therapies. The longer answer is that it’s about energetic wellness, biophysics and bioresonance—but if I start talking about those, it tends to go over people’s heads!

For me, total body wellness is inseparable from energetic wellness, and it’s always reflected in the skin. I explain it, ‘The body is like a human novel. You just have to know how to read the chapters.’


What inspired you to work in this area?

I started in the skin industry. I’d studied all sorts of skin modalities, alongside homoeopathy, the Bowen Technique and learning about fascia. I also looked at how cells interact with emotions, known as Noetics.

To me, it didn’t make sense to attack the skin, which is primarily a barometer of what’s going on internally. People are obsessed with stripping the skin and then plastering it with all sorts of things. I learned it makes a lot more sense to work with the skin and negotiate with the organs associated with skin conditions. I always say, ‘I start with how you chew, down to how you poo!’ You get amazing results by taking this approach, no matter your age.

Even now, some people don’t get it. They can’t understand why I don’t have skincare for normal, dry or oily skin. For me, skincare is about protecting the lipid barrier and feeding the microbiome. Everything else is an internal or energetic factor.

What does your typical day look like?

I get up early. The first thing I do is ground myself, so I go out onto the grass with bare feet. I’ll have a pine needle tea, then take our two chocolate Labradors for a walk.

After that, I prep for the clinic. My typical day can include energy medicine, distance energy therapy, colonics with enemas and ozone therapy, probiotic implants, vital air, electro-acupuncture or the Bowen Technique. I also do live blood analysis. Sometimes I’ll be in the clinic by 6.30am doing distance energy therapy for someone in Australia. I also have people from Cornwall, Scotland and the UAE come to see me, and last week I had a lady fly in from Seattle. Between the clinic appointments, I work on my skincare business doing new product development. It’s very varied.

At the end of the day, my husband and I take our dogs for another walk—we’re lucky to live in a beautiful part of Norfolk, and have our own field—and then prepare a nice meal. Then, if it’s a lovely evening and we have time, we’ll put some tea in the caddy and head to the beach. It’s a white sandy beach, and nobody’s there. It’s bliss.

I love what I do and become very invested in my clients. During lockdown, I was mentally exhausted because I couldn’t switch off—I’d be WhatsApping people at midnight. So, now I make a point of putting my phone upstairs, away from me, and I pick up a bit of embroidery. It’s the best mindfulness I’ve ever had.


What does health mean to you?

I often talk about people being born with a toxic bin. Some of us are born with that toxic bin half full, some a quarter full, and some three-quarters full. We fill that bin according to our diet and lifestyle, but also according to our thought processes and the emotional burden we receive from others—even our loved ones. So, you must be aware of your toxic bin level. You can have the healthiest diet in the world, but if you keep doing little things that fill your bin higher and higher, it will get heavy and cause you pain.

I’ve used a ‘non-emotional contract’ for years, and I advise all my clients to do it too. Rather than flicking between apps in bed every night, get a notebook and empty what’s in your head. Write it all down. Empty your emotional toxicity.

That’s, for me, is health. It’s understanding what you can cope with and offloading the things you can’t. It’s being moderate with the things you want in your life to make you happy.


What do you think are the biggest misperceptions about health today?

That health all comes down to diet and exercise. It doesn’t.

Sleep is crucial. When we sleep, our brain sifts through our thoughts and sorts them out. That’s why you can go to bed feeling anxious and overwhelmed and wake up feeling much better.

Being aware of what we’re exposed to is crucial. As an experiment, go and get two small, identical plants. Put one in your kitchen and the other by your WiFi router. You’ll see how stunted the growth of the latter is.

Being mindful of the things you’re thinking and saying is crucial. Whatever you think about, you’re tuning into that frequency. Try not to worry about things that haven’t happened yet or things that are out of your control—it’s like sitting in a room, staring at an umbrella, and waiting for it to rain when there’s beautiful sunshine outside.

How do you look after your skin?

I use all my own skincare and supplements.

In the morning, I use the Goji Mallow Cleanse with the Microfibre Mitt (someone once said it’s like wiping your face with a teddy bear’s a***!). I follow this up with a couple of drops of Elixir, which is an apricot and marula oil rich in vitamin C, and spritz my skin with Hydr8 Misting Veil. I’ll then use a couple of drops of Reson8 mixed with Skin Quencher, a hydrogel that mimics the lipid barrier. I haven’t used moisturisers for years.

In the evening, I’ll do the same. I’ll also use Face, which is a pro-vitamin A oil. Unlike putting retinol on your skin, which can cause an inflammatory response, Face upregulates your skin’s natural production of vitamin A. It may take longer to see results, but it’s much kinder to your skin. I may also use my copper wand, the fascia blaster, or a bit of Foreo or Face Gym microcurrent.

Twice a week, I’ll do a Restore mask mixed with Anoint (again, my own products), which achieves a gentle, probiotic exfoliation of the skin. When you remove it, your skin is like velvet. And then, I’ll sleep in Butter Balm three or four times a week.

For supplements, I take YVE, which is great if you’re peri- or post-menopausal. You can also mix my supplements with my skincare—and I often put YVE in Elixir, so all the phytochemicals radiate through the face oil too. I also use Ocean EFA, and Coll-Force and 3-Set are a must for hair re-growth post-menopause. I also use Focus whenever I feel I have brain fog.


If you could give just one piece of advice concerning skin, what would it be and why?

Hydrate! Hydration is not only key for the suppleness of the skin, but it’s also crucial for intracellular communication. I stay away from tap water—in energy medicine, we learn that tap water is imprinted with frequencies—and I drink ACTIPH Water instead. I’ll add turmeric, ionic minerals and a homoeopathic remedy for rehydration.


Whom do you look up to, and why?

My father. His work ethic is second to none, and he always instilled in me that I’m no less or no better than anyone else—so treat everybody with kindness.

He also has a saying, ‘Put on a blue light’. Whenever things get stressful or upsetting, you just picture a blue light, and it gets you out of it. I lost a child years ago and had to go into hospital, and imagining that blue light really helped me.


Tell us something about you that people wouldn’t expect.

Whenever there’s a waterfall or a stream, I strip off and get in it—whatever the weather! The water’s energy is amazing. We’re going to Scotland in September, and we’ve already planned where we’re going to include some waterfalls.


Aside from good health, family and friends, what do you cherish in your life?

Time. In today’s world, we must be especially mindful of how we spend our time and how it makes us feel. Take lockdown as an example: we were all forced to be in front of the television, hearing constant messages of doom and gloom—and anxiety and stress skyrocketed.

Be mindful of your thinking. If you can’t control something, don’t waste time worrying about it. Instead, spend time with your loved ones or do something good for yourself.
